Greetings and welcome to Duke University! As part of Duke Campus Mail Services, we extend a warm welcome to you as you embark on your journey here. To facilitate a seamless transition, we have compiled essential information for your move-in day preparations. We encourage you to review our Campus Mail Student Guide for more comprehensive details regarding mail at Duke.
Mailbox Keys
Campus Mail Services will issue keys out of Brodie Gym on Move-In Day - August 16, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Mailbox Assignments
In late June, students will receive an email notification from our office containing their mailbox assignments and designated Box number. Your Box number will stay the same throughout your undergraduate tenure at Duke. NOTE: It is imperative to add your Box number on all incoming packages and mail.
Proper Addressing
Please use addressing formats when listing your address information. Learn how to address mail and packages to students living on campus
Note: The ZIP Code for all dorms is 27708, but street addresses for East Campus residence halls vary by dorm. You can find a directory for East Campus dorms here.
Mailing Instructions for Move-In Day
To ensure smooth operations, we kindly ask that you schedule your Move-In Day materials to arrive at Duke no earlier than July 15th. This year, packages will be organized into pickup location(s) near your respective residence hall. You will receive information regarding your specific pickup location prior to Move-In Day. Individuals should anticipate moving their own packages from their pick-up location to their residence hall.
Please note that pickup locations will only be serviced on Move-In Day (8/16) between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Any packages not collected during these designated windows will be integrated into our standard package delivery process, as outlined in the Campus Mail Student Guide.
Mailing Restrictions
- Weight: Packages may weigh no more than 75 pounds
- Length: Packages may be no longer than 108 inches in any one dimension
- Perishable/Refrigerated: Packages cannot be refrigerated during handling and delivery through Duke Campus Mail Services.
- Medicine: Medicine can be delivered to Duke, but we recommend finding an alternative, such as the Duke Pharmacy or a local alternative, if they require special handling requirements and/or are time sensitive.
- Prohibited Items: Duke follows the same restricted mailing guidelines for prohibited items per Private carriers (e.g. FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS, etc.), in addition to any policies laid out by Duke PD, or Student Affairs, as well as applicable state and federal laws.
