
Certified Mail provides proof of mailing at time of mailing and the date and time of delivery or attempted delivery. Return Receipt can be added to confirm delivery. (Form PS 3800)
Return Receipt provides a postcard or electronic notification with the date of delivery and recipient signature. Note: This is a separate service and fee as well. (Form # PS3811)
Please note: When sending and using the Certified Mail Service, the Return Receipt is an extra service and an additional cost. You will need to factor in the three services. For example:
Postage cost (based on weight), then calculate the Certified Mail Fee + Return Receipt Fee for Total Postage costs.
Please follow steps below to send out Certified Mail via US Postal Service.
- Complete the certified mail form (Form 3800, shown below) and fill out section 3 with “Ship to” information. Write Department name in (Official Use) area.
- When using return receipt, place article # label - Section 1) on bottom of card Sect. 2 of (Form 3811).
- Place Section 2 of form (Barcode) above the delivery address and immediately to the right of the return address on the envelope or package. Fold over at dotted line. On a letter, where space is limited, leave as much room as possible in the top right-hand corner for postage.
- Complete both sides of the return receipt card (Form 3811). Be sure you use your full return address.
- Place the return receipt card (Form 3811) on the back of a small envelope or on the front of a package or large envelope, make certain the card does not cover the address. Please seal ALL flats.
